Cherokee Strip Trail Ride

The Annual CHEROKEE STRIP TRAIL RIDE is being held for 2018 on Saturday, September 22,  at Sarge Creek Cove, Kaw City, OK on Kaw Lake, located in north-central Oklahoma. Reservations for the ride and/or camping may be made by contacting Shanna Stierwelt at Kaw Lake Association at 580-269-2213.

Organized by the Kaw Lake Association in commemoration of the opening of Oklahoma’s Cherokee Strip Outlet in 1893, the ride begins Saturday morning at the Sarge Creek Cove Campground, east of Kaw City on Kaw Lake. Riders depart at 11 a.m. from the group camp site pavilion and will be divided into gaited and quarter horse groups for a guided ride out to the Big Ravine where the group will break for lunch. Riders should bring a sack lunch. 

Following the ride, everyone is invited to meet at the pavilion for a good ole chuck wagon cookout ($10.00 plate). Meal includes dessert and beverage. This will be followed by live entertainment by Larry Newsom.  Make checks payable to Kaw Lake Association, P.O. Box 136, Kaw City, OK 74641

Participants can come just for the day ride or come Friday evening and join others for the weekend camping at the reserved sites at Sarge Creek. The trail boss for the ride is Jesse Hodges.  Other trail scouts assist in leading the groups.

Campers need to pre-register to guarantee campsite.  Confirmed upon receipt of payment and registration form.  Look for our form on our website at Forms menu or our facebook page. You can also pick one up at our office in Kaw City.
